Fowler's Snare (Psalm 124)

from A Long Obedience (Pilgrim Psalms, Vol. 1) by Tarblossom

/

lyrics

Had not the Lord been on our side,
May Israel now say;
Had not the Lord been on our side,
When men rose us to slay;

They had us swallowed quick, when as
Their wrath 'gainst us did flame:
The flood had covered us, our soul
Had sunk beneath the stream.

Our sure and all-sufficient help
We trust in Yahweh's name;
His name who did the heav'n create,
And who the earth did frame.

Then had the waters, swelling high,
Over our soul made way.
Blessed be the Lord, who to their teeth
Us gave not for a prey.

Our soul's escapèd, as a bird
Out of the fowler's snare;
The snare asunder broken is,
And we escapèd are.

Our sure and all-sufficient help
We trust in Yahweh’s name;
His name who did the heav'n create,
And who the earth did frame.

The inspiration behind Tarblossom can be found in the earthy grit of old-time Americana, the swampy spank of Delta bottleneck, and the pulsing ambience of modern electronica as a contemporary setting for ancient texts. ... more
